Discover the spirit of the city

The city of Vaasa is located at the narrowest point of the Gulf of Bothnia in Finland. On the opposite side of the sea there is a Swedish city Umeå. The distance between these two cities is only about 80 kilometres. The sea with its countless islands gives Vaasa an unique atmosphere. The tourists can enjoy the possibilities that the sea has to offer; boating, fishing, exploring the archipelago and taking exercise along the beautiful shore are leisure activities of the local people too. A nice park in the city center, by the sea is the Kalaranta. In the historical center of the city there is a beautiful garden Kuninkaankartanon puisto.

In the center of Vaasa you can spend time visiting museums and culture attractions or enjoy a delicious meal in some of the excellent restaurants. Particularly interesting museum is the Vaasa Car and Motor Museum that has collection of veteran cars, -motors and -motorcycles. In the summer the museum presents its collection organising a cruising night every wednesday. The old museum cars fill the central square of the city and then drive around in the city.

There are several nice places to have a delicious lunch or dinner in Vaasa – you can choose between the traditional Ostrobothnian á la Carte delicacies, pizzerias and ethnic restaurants. At the market hall a cosy place to have soup or a salad is the Bistro A. W. Stenfors and at the market square you can eat home made food in Panorama. The restaurant Gustav Wasa is an old coal cellar that has been turned into an inviting restaurant filled with a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The Vietnamese restaurant Chili Lime offers a nice alternative with its exotic food. If you would like to start the day with a tasty breakfast you should try Kaffehuset August's different breakfast alternatives, every morning at 08.00 – 10.00.

A great place to enjoy the relaxing effect of water all year around is the Waterpark Tropiclandia. There you can for example swimm in the main pool, try the refreshing effect of the cold water pool and let the water falls massage your shoulders. In Tropiclandia there are also many different kinds of saunas. In the summer the park has water activities outdoors. Another place to have fun with the family or friends is the amusement park Wasalandia with its dozens of rides, carousels and activities for all ages.
