What else does The Netherlands offer besides Amsterdam?
The Netherlands
We actually all know The Netherlands because of Amsterdam and the canals, bicycles, red light district and coffee shops. But The Netherlands has more to offer than that!
Bring a visit to Den Hague, Groningen, Maastricht, Delft, Utrecht or the Zaanse Schans. The simple thing of The Netherlands is that it is not that big wherefore you don't loose a lot of time traveling around. You can choose to sleep in Amsterdam and make day trips to other cities, but you could also stay in one of our accommodations that we offer in the other cities.
Den Hague is the city of the Dutch Government and the home base of the Queen and her family. All foreign embassy's are located in Den Hague just as the government ministries. And the Council of State and the Supreme court. Besides this, Den Hague is also known because of the famous attraction park “ Madurodam” where Holland has been build in miniature. If you are planning to visit Holland during the summer, then come and cool off in Scheveningen the beach at the North Sea.
One of the cities in the south is Maastricht. The mentality of the inhabitants changes and the people are warmer, there is a very cozy atmosphere. Maastricht is worth the visit to give you another image of The Netherlands. Maastricht lies at the river the Maas, nice to make a boat ride!
In the middle of The Netherlands is Groningen, the city of culture, architecture and fun .
The student city of The Netherlands is Utrecht, know for the Dom tower (a tower that stands symbol of the city). Utrecht is one of the oldest cities and is famous for the canals, with canal cruises. In the arches of the canals you can find many restaurants and night clubs to have a romantic dinner at night.
For the ones of you who are interested in Delfts Blauw Wedgwood, you should bring at visit to Delft. The city where the Delfts Blauw (blue) Wedgwood is made.
Interested to see the The Netherlands of the old days? Then go to the Schaanse Schans, this is a city where you can see traditional life of how it use to go many years before. Easily reachable from the center of Amsterdam. You will see wind meals who make bread, cheese farms and the famous liquorice. Volendam is another small fisherman village, very cute!
Want to visit some cheese markets? Where you can see how cheese is bought and sold back in the days. Then come and visit Gouda and Alkmaar in the early morning on Friday. You see farmers selling and buying cheese, very nice!
For the ones of you who have an interest in ice skating, you should go to Friesland in the winter months if it is freezing. You can come and see or even ice skate the 11 steden tocht ( 11 cities tour).
And then there are the bounty islands of The Netherlands ;) Texel, Terschelling and Ameland. Famous among the Germans, a nice holiday destination. From Den Helder (main land) you take the ferry to one of the islands. Terschelling is popular among the youngsters for the Oerol Festival. The islands are an ideal place to relax, go to the beach and bikes through the dunes.
Will you be coming to The Netherlands this summer?
