Enjoy the summer at the West and Best coast of Sweden

Gothenburg is known for great seafood and friendly people. Swedes may have a reputation for being reserved however that is not true for the habitants of Gothenburg who loves to talk, and talk and talk.. there is always time for a coffee , so the cafés are numerous. One of the best one if you like music is legendary Café Publik on Andra Långgatan with DJ, and a very good Lp collection.

Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden after Stockholm, but Gothenburg is the capitol of the underground culture. Being known as a working-class city and closer to the Continent of Europe, Gothenburg is known for being more courageous in art and music not as sensitive to trends as the homogenic Stockholm.

Well-known for its vivid street-life with bars and restaurants much cheaper than in the rest of the country, there is plenty of options on a Saturday night. The main-stream bars and clubs are to be found around “Kungportsavenyn” –while the more interesting Flora of amusements are around the square Järntorget.

The Club Nefertiti has Gothenburg’s best selection of Club nights, with jazz, electronic, dance, soul, and jam-session nights..

Also Pustervik is well worth a check-up, a cultural mecca, with concerts, shows and clubs, and with a nice bar/ café on the first floor serving lunch during the day.

Close to Pustervik is the popular street Tredje Långgatan where you find pubs and bars for more hard-core Rockers and Bikers. The beer is cheap which also attracts many students.

On beautiful summer nights it is worth the effort to go a little bit out of the immediate center. Close to the city park Slottskogen you will find the cozy Kontiki restaurant, decorated in South Pacific theme, serving good pizza in the evening sun as well as more expensive exotic food. A DJ playing very good dance music or a live band playing is offered later at night.

Or why not go to Röda Sten a big brick building by the harbor where art exhibitions, concerts and festivals are held, also with an excellent restaurant overlooking the harbor, perfect for weekend afternoons.

For the true underground parties though, you have to get to know the locals first.

The seafood in Gothenburg is world famous, Here you can have it daily fresh everyday. Only 30 minutes with the tram and you will be by the sea ready for a picnic on the cliffs with smoked shrimps, aioli and a cold beer. Hop on a ferry and another 20 minutes you will be circulating the beautiful archipelago of Gothenburg. You may think Sweden is too far up north for a comfortable swim in the sea. But it’s quite warm, and you may expect around 20 degrees Celsius in June. Enjoy the clear and salty water. To mention some of the most pitoresque islands, where you find both restaurants and beach facilities, we recommend Styrsö and Brännö.

The Botanical garden of Gothenburg is considered one of the best in Europe. The Garden has among many features, a Rodhodendron valley and a Japanese Garden. The Botanical garden café is perfectly located on a hill, warm and sunny protected from the otherwise windy Harbor town, and is the perfect place for a coffee an early spring day.

Last but not least the pride of Gothenburg Liseberg, Northern Europe’s largest amusement park. Rollercoaster Balder was voted number one rollercoaster made of wood in the world. The amusement park has millions of visitors every season and offers fun for all ages. Besides attractions there is also dancing and concerts -if you are curious to see the most popular artists from Sweden here is where you find them in the summer.

Book you accommodation at Hostelsclub.com but remember in the summer the hostels and hotels in Gothenburg is often fully booked dued to the many big national events that takes place here, Volvo Ocean Race, Gothia Cup , Madonna concert, U2 concert, the music festival Way out west with artists like Lily Allen, Band of Brothers and so on. Hostelsclub.com has many good budget alternatives to offer: Stay over at the hostel Slottskogen right in the middle of the beautiful neighborhood Linné with Gothenburg’s best restaurants and bars around the corner, or nearby, the charming Änggårdens Bed & Breakfast close to the Botanical garden and opposite the park Slottskogen. Do you want to live downtown on one of the more popular shopping street, rent a room at rooms in apartment, or enjoy hotel standard at Comfort Hotel City Center, if your destination is amusmentpark Liseberg we can recommend nearby Hotel Allén or rent a room at Gunnar Molin.

Enjoy your summer in Gothenburg the West and Best Coast of Sweden!
