The Newest Hostel Barcelona

Barcelona Urbany Hostel

Barcelona Urbany Hostel is located in a pretty eclectic area, nearby some of the most famous attractions in town. Here there is a suggestion for those who like discovering a city on foot.

Just outside the hostel you can take Avenida Meridiana on your right and walk to Plaça de les Glories, the huge roundabout you find just a couple of blocks away. In the last few years this place has been changed a lot: firstly by the opening of a Shopping Center and afterwards by the construction of a few amazing buildings. The first one you'll see is the Torre Agbar, surely the city most modern and impressive skyscraper. The tower has been built by the French architect Jean Nouvel and took its name from the city water provider company which made of it its headquarter. Its ambiguous shape and the original colours produced different reactions in the city and gave it big popularity.

Following Avenida Meridiana, after two blocks you will find another impressive construction, inspired by a Greek Parthenon: it's the TNC (Teatre Nacional de Catalunya), stage of important plays and designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill. Just in front of the theatre you'll find the Auditori, disgned by the architect Rafael Moneo and opened in 1999. The same complex also holds the centre of the Orquestra Simfónica de Barcelona, the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and the Museu de la Música. In the Auditori central hall you'll see one of the most impressive part of it: a monumental cubic glass light, built in the shape of an ancient Roman impluvium.

Now, take Carrer de la Marina on your right and keep walking for about 4 blocks until you find the Plaza de Toros Monumental. This has been opened in 1914, under the name of El Sport, before being renamed just after 2 years.

Since 1977 it is the only bullring in Barcelona and has also been stage for many musical events. The most famous of them has been The Beatles concert the 3rd of July in 1965, which opened the city to international music. In the 70's and the 80's the Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Dire Straits and Bruce Springsteen played in the Monumental too. Following Carrer de la Marina you finally arrive to the breathtaking temple of La Sagrada Familia. The building, designed by Antoni Gaudí, has been started in 1883 and is scheduled to be completed in 2026. Many things can be said about this place, but probably the best thing to do is just arrive there and be amazed by the magnificence of it.

Now you can't end your tour without paying a short visit to the modernist Hospital de Sant Pau, exactly in front of the Sagrada Familia, at the end of the Avenida de Gaudi.

The hospital has been designed by Lluís Doménech i Montaner between 1901 and 1930 and it is now one of the most important ones in Barcelona. >From here you can get back to the hostel by bus (bus nº 50) or you can walk down Carrer de la Independiencia to Avenida Meridiana.

Enjoy your visit!!
