Alternative Transportation Options for Traveling within Europe

Where to Go and How to Get there without a Plane.

Are you still stuck at the airport figuring out how to get to your destination? We understand you already packed for your trip that has already been booked, but can't get there how you planned. No worries! There are other alternatives! Planes are not the only way to get around. We also have the options to travel by bus, boat, bike, train and car.

Here are some ideas where Europeans can travel to this summer or even tomorrow without the need of a plane!

Car:

Basically you can travel all over the world by car, you just fill the boot, program your navigator, and head of to wherever you wish to go. Not in for a very long journey? You can drive to France, Italy, Spain, Germany...all the countries that will take less than a day to travel to.

Ever think of Annecy as an idea for this summer? Check our hostels in Annecy, France now!

Or if you rather go to Spain there are several cities us Europeans can drive to. The Costa Brava is a big tourist destination, cause of the nice weather, not too far out, beautiful beaches, nice sea, and delicious tapas! Book a hostel in the Costa Brava straight away!

Check all our hostels in different countries and cities in Europe as there are too many to mention.

Train:

Another good idea for this summer is to buy an Interrail train ticket. This gives you the opportunity to travel by train throughout Europe. You can buy the ticket by zones, so the more zones the further out you can travel. Basically you check the countries you wish to visit (makes most sense to choose countries that are connected to each other) and book your ticket for a certain period. For most trains you do not need a reservation you can just hop on. Some, however, some need to be booked and you will be charged a small fee for that. Check the interrail site for more info. Of course you will need accommodation for each place you wish to see, so check our hostels in Europe and book now!

Bus:

Even travelling by bus gives you lots of opportunities to see the countryside. Let's say Italy is the country of choice. Once there you can take a bus to travel from Venice, to Florence, to Rome, to Naples. You name it! You can also easily take buses from Italy to the Ex- Yugoslavian countries such as Slovenia and Croatia which are beautiful countries to see during the summer. The beach cities are a must see, for instance Pula and Dubrovnik.

Bike:

For the real exercise fanatics, you can get your bicycle out of the shed and bike it all across Europe. Attach your tent on the back of your bicycle and head off to different campsites throughout Europe. If you don’t feel like bringing too much luggage...no worries! Hostelsclub.com even gives the option to book bungalows and tents on diffent campsites. See our campsite options in Amsterdam, Venice and Berlin to name a few!

If you wish to book camp sites in Europe you can specifically set the search filter and check off 'campings' once you've searched for a city.

Boat/Ferries:

Also boating is a nice way to travel and get fresh air. You can go to Greece and go island hopping or take the boat from Germany to Denmark, or from England to Ireland. Country-hopping isn't so bad when you ferry it.

Check our hostels in Europe to decide which country you would like to visit this summer.

Have a great holiday!
