First stop is Stirling and Braveheart Country (William Wallace, King Robert the Bruce and Rob Roy) – you’ll hear all the history and legends, with plenty of walks and time off the bus. Then we wind through some of Scotland’s finest glens, including Glen Garry, breathtaking Glencoe (hear about the massacre of the Clan MacDonald) and Glen Sheil. A quick stop at Eilean Donan Castle, then it’s over to the Isle of Skye, our home for the next 3 nights.
Day 2 – Christmas Day – Waking up on the Isle of Skye on Christmas Day is wonderful – we start off with a champagne breakfast and have a relaxing morning with some gentle walks in the local area to get an appetite up for your delicious Christmas Dinner followed by lots of fun and games!
Day 3 – Boxing Day – A full & active day today around this wonderful Island with lots of walking & searching for the many legends. You’ll stop at the magnificent Cuillin Mountains, the quaint town of Portree & then head around the Trotternish peninsula - you’ll discover the wonders of the Old Man of Storr, Lealt Falls, the panoramic views of the Quiraing with folklore around every corner!! A few drams will be had tonight, to reflect on a day of wonder, and to say farewell to this beautiful Isle.
Day 4 – Today we head off the Island, northwards, over the stunning Achasheen road and into Wester Ross. There will be stops at Loch Carron and Maree, the chance to run down one of our golden sandy beaches at Gairloch and marvel at the Torridon mountains. With waterfalls and gorges to discover this is a lovely relaxing way to spend the day. The last leg of the drive will take us eastwards again to the superb Carbisdale Castle – our home for tonight!
Day 5 – Having spent the night in grandeur, we will pack up and make our way southwards. Our first stop will be in the beautiful Glen Affric where we will take a gentle walk to get our energy levels up – now we are ready to hit the infamous Loch Ness and see if Nessie is about! Next we make an emotional visit to Culloden battlefield to hear of the Jacobites last attempt to restore the Scottish Monarchy. We cheer up on our way south, with a stop at the gorgeous Falls of Bruar before making our way to the quaint town of Pitlochry where we settle for the last night.
Day 6 – Back to Edinburgh today we drive straight out to St Andrews with plenty of time for you to explore this ancient religious capital – walk the Old Course, run down the beach (Chariots of Fire!), visit the castle and cathedral or do a bit of shopping – the choice is yours. After lunch we make our way back to Edinburgh along the Fife coastline – fishing villages, tales of witches and the grand Forth Bridges – and then back to the capital to prepare for the biggest party in the world.
