El monasterio de Troyan está situado en los dobleces norteños del Troyan Balcan en la orilla izquierda del río de Cherni Osum y es el tercer monasterio más grande y más significativo de Bulgaria. Debe de haber estado en existencia mucho antes de que el siglo de l5th, pues las leyendas sugieren. Prosperó otra vez sobre el año 1600. Un punto del gran interés es la iglesia principal del monasterio maravilloso que fue pintada por Zahari Zograph en 1847-1849. Él monasterio es famoso por su icono de la Virgen Mary. Un centro bien conocido de la literatura en el pasado, todavía tiene una biblioteca rica y valiosa. En los tiempos de la lucha nacional para la libertad el monasterio de Troyan ha sido un centro revolucionario verdadero.
