Localizados a 18 kilómetros hacia el oeste de Varna son uno de los fenómenos naturales más increíbles de Bulgaria. Los pilares de piedra naturales - algunos que alcanzan 6 metros de alto, unos hasta 12 metros a través en su base se conocen como 'el bosque aterrorizado'. Algunas columnas se asemejan a animales, otras le recuerdan fuentes o cascadas congeladas. Varias filas de columnas crean la impresión que cada uno está compuesta de dos conos que balancean en sus puntos agudos. La teoría que prevalece es que el 'bosque de piedra' cerca de Varna fue formad a hace 50 millones de años. En aquella 'epoca era una parte del fondo del mar. Después de retroceder del agua los sedimentos inorgánicos erosionados, así logrando las formas maravillosas que admiramos hoy.
